It doesn't tell you whether an egg actually got released, and it definitely doesn't tell you whether your luteal phase is doing its job afterward.

That's the gap a newer category of fertility monitors is trying to close: instead of one hormone and a yes/no line, they track several hormones across your whole cycle and give you an actual number. In this piece I'm comparing the four names that come up most: Inito, Mira, Proov, and Oova. Why "Predicting" and "Confirming" Are Two Different Jobs

It's worth being precise about the two things these devices claim to do, because they're genuinely different:

  • Predicting ovulation means catching the rise in estrogen and the LH surge before you ovulate, so you know when to time things. This is what a regular OPK does too, just with less detail.
  • Confirming ovulation means detecting the rise in PdG (a progesterone metabolite) in the days after your suspected ovulation, which tells you an egg was actually released and your luteal phase is producing progesterone. This is the piece a basic OPK can't give you at all.

All four monitors below claim to do some version of both. What differs is which hormones they measure, how they measure them, and what it costs you to find out.

Inito

Inito reads four hormones — estrogen (E3G), LH, PdG, and FSH — off a single test strip, using a dedicated reader that photographs the strip and sends results to the app. As of April 2026, that reader (called the InSight Wireless Reader) is a standalone Wi-Fi device that works with both iPhone and Android, which fixed the older version's biggest complaint: it used to have to physically clip onto your phone.

You buy the reader once (list price around $119-$149 depending on bundle) and then buy strips as you go — Inito says most people get through a cycle on about $49 worth of strips, since the app only tells you to test on the days that matter rather than every single day. Inito has published peer-reviewed data claiming its readings track closely with blood hormone levels; as always, that's data the company funded or ran itself, so it's supportive rather than independent proof.

Good fit if: you want the most hormones on the fewest strips, you're comfortable with a dedicated reader device, and you'd rather pay per-cycle than per-month.

Mira

Mira has been around the longest of these four and offers the most flexibility in what you test: separate wands for LH+E3G ("Plus" or "Max," which adds PdG), FSH ("Ovum"), and PdG alone ("Confirm"), all read by the same analyzer. That's genuinely useful if you only care about confirming ovulation some cycles and don't want to pay for hormones you're not tracking — but it also means the per-wand cost adds up fast if you want the full picture every cycle, and Mira's wands run noticeably more per test than Inito's strips.

Mira also leans hardest into being useful beyond just TTC — it markets modes for perimenopause and general hormone tracking, not just conception, and its analyzer supports several wand generations, which is handy if you've already invested in one.

Good fit if: you want to pick and choose which hormones to test each cycle, or you're interested in hormone tracking beyond just trying to conceive.

Proov

Proov takes a simpler, no-reader approach: you read the test strips visually (or via their app for a photo-based read), rather than through a dedicated device. Their "Predict" test measures LH, and "Confirm" is a PdG test that Proov says is the first and only FDA-cleared PdG test specifically for confirming ovulation at home — worth noting that clearance applies to that specific PdG test, not to Proov's whole product line.

Proov's protocol for the Confirm test is straightforward: once you get a peak LH reading (from Proov or any OPK), you count forward and test on days 7 through 10 after your peak, looking for the line to fade to confirm a solid progesterone rise. No reader to buy also means a lower up-front cost, though the per-cycle strip cost is still real.

Good fit if: you specifically want a PdG confirmation test with a clear regulatory claim behind it, and you don't want to buy any hardware.

Oova

Oova reads LH, E3G, and PdG using your phone's camera to scan the strip — no separate reader hardware at all, which is its main practical difference from Inito and Mira. It was developed with input from Mount Sinai and markets itself hard on precision and on working for people with PCOS, perimenopause, or unpredictable cycles, rather than assuming everyone fits a tidy 28-day cycle.

Of the four, Oova tends to run on the pricier end per cycle, but the no-hardware approach means a lower barrier to just trying it, and results can be shared with a provider or synced for use during IUI or timed insemination cycles.

Good fit if: you'd rather not buy a dedicated reader device, and/or you have PCOS or irregular cycles where a "standard" fertile-window assumption doesn't apply to you.

So Which One Should You Actually Get?

Honestly? If your cycles are fairly regular and you mainly want a heads-up plus confirmation after the fact, a cheapie LH strip plus a standalone PdG test gets you most of the way there for a fraction of the cost of any of these four. Where the multi-hormone monitors earn their price is irregular or unpredictable cycles — PCOS, coming off birth control, postpartum, or just cycles that never seem to follow a pattern — where seeing the actual hormone trend, not just a single yes/no line, genuinely helps you (and your doctor) figure out what's going on.

Between the four, I'd point people toward Inito if you want the most complete hormone picture for the lowest ongoing cost and don't mind a reader device, Proov if you specifically want a well-documented PdG confirmation test without buying hardware, Mira if you want the flexibility to test different hormones different cycles, and Oova if you'd rather use your phone camera than own another gadget.

Whichever you pick, remember these are tracking tools, not diagnostic ones. They can show you patterns worth bringing to a doctor — they can't tell you on their own whether something needs fixing.
